HearTomo – An iPhone app for visualizing health status
A fun way of visualizing user’s physical and mental health with ECG data
ZMP Inc. has been involved in a wide range of developments including the multi-robot OS “ROBO-HI®”, autonomous vehicles, and robots. On November 5, 2024, the company released the app “HearTomo®” which visualized the heart health conditions.
HearTomo is an application that uses the ECG data (recording of electrical activity during heart muscle contraction) on the Apple Watch to perform independent analysis of items related to physical and mental health. By measuring the ECG data for 30 seconds x 4 times (total of 2 minutes) using the ECG app on Apple Watch, it provides the following 04 functions.
1. Slope and transition of 1/f fluctuation
Heartbeat interval RRI data is converted to PSD (power spectral density) and FFT (fast fourier transform) of BPM (beats per minute) to obtain 1/f fluctuation. The slope of the 1/f fluctuation is then calculated. The vertical axis is log10 of the PSD and the horizontal axis is log10 of the PSD frequency.
The -1 is the state in which various periodic components are “well mixed” and is considered to be pleasant in neutral phenomena, such as wind fluctuations and musical scales.
2. Lorenz plot
The Lorenz plot is one of the time-domain indices of autonomic nervous activity and the heart beat interval RRI(n) is the interval between the nth heart beat and the heart beat one beat before it. A Lorenz plot is a plot of RRI(n) values on the x-axis and RRI(n+1) values on the y-axis.
3. Custom-made emotion analysis
The accumulation of data is learned and updated on a daily basis to provide emotion estimation adapted to the individual. The power value obtained from spectral analysis of heart rate variability is integrated in the frequency band 0.04 to 0.15Hz, which is LF (low frequency) and mainly contains sympathetic components. HF (high frequency), which is integrated in the frequency band 0.15 to 0.4Hz, contains the parasympathetic component.
The activity of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves is classified into 4 states: “high for both nerves,” “high for sympathetic nerves only,” “high for parasympathetic nerves only,” and “low for both nerves.”
4. Heart rate transition
The red line is the resting heart rate and the blue line is the heart rate during HearTomo measurement.

It can be used in any industry or business, but it is especially recommended for use as an employee benefit in public transportation jobs such as railroads and taxis, and in civil engineering and construction, where physical fitness is a valuable asset. It can also be deployed in conjunction with our robots.
HearTomo application has already been released in the U.S., with plans to expand overseas to the U.K., China, Vietnam, and other countries.
